Where did I go?

51 hours to Virginia and back! 28 hours driving

I just got back from a road trip to Virginia. I drove the entire distance up and back by myself and it was tiring to say the least.

Recent trip to Virginia

I took a few pictures while in Virginia

I love to travel and see new places, but when it has to be done on a schedule, it can take most of the fun of travel away. This was not a road trip for pleasure. This trip was to appear in court for a probate litigation hearing for my wife Cindi. We have been doing this case ourselves, pro-se, and it appears that we neglected to properly serve the other party. So back to the drawing board on the case as it was not heard.

I enjoy law and doing research about it, but probate law, not my cup of tea. Its kind of boring actually. However, the opposing attorney has made some great errors in the will and now he has me a bit hot. I think it will get interesting from this point on!

Virginia lake by the mountains

The color change of fall can be breathtaking

We had to be in court on Wednesday at 1:00, so we left Tuesday morning at 2:00 am. I made it to Wythe County by 4:00 pm, we checked into the room, got some chow and hit the sack. The following morning we took a scenic drive of about 28 miles of Virginia farmland back country roads. With the fall change of color in the trees, it was quite beautiful to see.

After appearing in court only to learn of our error, we were back on the road by 3:00 pm heading back through Tennessee to see more of the mountains and color change in the trees. With very few hours of daylight left, the scenic view was quickly over. Just after hitting the Florida State line and getting into the home stretch, we hit a terrible fog cover. This slowed my speed down to less than 40 MPH at times. We arrived home at 5:00 am Thursday with me feeling half dead.

After a day of recoup and catching up on email and such, I am back to work.

Daytona Motorcycle Rally

Posted in Bike Week, Biker Sites, Biketoberfest, Cool Sites, Daytona Beach, Florida, Internet, Motorcycle Event Accommodations, Motorcycle Events, Motorcycle Pictures, Motorcycles, Projects, Sites I have created on October 28th, 2006

Because I have motorcycle event sites that deal in both big Florida events, I am trying to slowly consolidate all in to one site for easier navigation.

This has proved to be quite time consuming, but I intend on having a complete Daytona Motorcycle Rally site that will cover all aspects of the two events. Currently I am adding a photo gallery on both the Bike Week and Biketober edition of the site. The new photo galleries allow visitors to add their event pictures too.

I have maintained a comprehensive travel section that will help future visitors to easily locate event hotel accommodations at Internet discount prices. Motorcycle event hotel accommodations are easily found using our online hotel reservation system. Visitors will be able to easily find the best hotel rates in the Daytona Beach and surrounding area.

I am working on posting a better event schedule to help visitors plan their trip to Florida for a motorcycle event. I will be adding a bar and restaurant guide soon. Look for many exciting changes in the months to come at http://www.daytonamotorcyclerally.com/

I enjoy fishing

Offshore fishing with friend and my first dolphin

Capt. Rick brings my first dolphin aboard

Since my youth, I have loved to fish! As a kid I used to fish with my brothers at a small lake named Lake Osborne in the city Of Lake Worth, where I grew up. As we got older, we started fishing from the pier in the Atlantic Ocean off the Florida east coast.

Then we learned the art of snook fishing off the bridges of the Intercoastal waterway. When I say art, I mean this breed of fish is smart and it truly is an art to be able to bag one. Especially from the height of a bridge like the Lantana bridge. The Lantana bridge was my favorite place to stay over most weekends to fish for snook. Snook is a game fish and is controlled by the Florida Marine Patrol and at the time you were allowed to have 4 fish a day with a minimum length of 18 inches. Gone are those days.

My bud Jeff Townsend and his bull dolphin

Capt. Rick and my bud Jeff Townsend with his big bull Dolphin

Back in May, my good friend Jeff Townsend took me out for my first charter boat fishing trip aboard the Surf Rider with Captain Rick Marchetti. We had a blast! Jeff and I hooked into a dolphin at the same time. He caught the bull, which is the male of the species and I caught the cow.

A good day of offshore fishing

We had a good day of offshore fishing

Capt. Rick wanted me to toss mine because Jeff’s fish was bigger. I said no way, I am hauling this thing in, as I started reeling even harder. We were successful at landing both fish plus a slew of others.

My Biketoberfest or Biketober as I refer to it site. I had a little problem with the city and the Daytona Beach Chamber about using the word fest with biketober and had to remove it from all the pages and graphics. You can read more about that in my post remove the fest or face legal action.

Competing for “biker bucks”

Posted in Bike Week, Biketoberfest, Daytona Beach, Editorial, Florida, Motorcycle Event Accommodations, Motorcycle Events, Motorcycles, Opinion, Ormond Beach, Politics, Rants and Raves on July 8th, 2006

It’s not funny how the web sites on the Internet related to motorcycle events compete for your money as a motorcycle owner, enthusiast and biker. Especially when it comes to the city Daytona Beach, Florida the Chamber and  visitors bureau. A city that is continually barking about motorcycle events and the debilitation that it brings upon its character. The city of Daytona Beach has announced more than once that they intend to promote more of a family and corporate eye for tourism and wish to downsize events. The web sites that they build and have created would leave you to believe differently, and why not? They are only after the biker buck!

I am amazed at the flat out plagiarism that has been going on with the sites that are run by paid developers. At a point in time I was flattered at the idea that these so called designers followed me around like a puppy starving for attention, but it has just got out of hand. You all know what I mean. It is like when some guy decides he wants to show off by picking on you because you are the badest looking guy in a crowd. You try real hard to hold your temper and not pop the guy in the face, but he just keeps pushing your buttons any way he can. That is what is going on with these wanna bes. They are pretending to be your friend and mix in with the crowd, the whole time they have their eye on your wallet.

I tried to communicate and develop a relationship with these people. They refused, stating we primarily promote the Daytona Beach area to families and corporate markets.  The Daytona Area Convention and Visitors Bureau tells me this because I had pictures that did promote family and corporate values. Later as my Biketober site became more popular, and in an act of jealousy, Janet Kersey from the DBCVB writes to me Certified and states that I must not use the word biketoberfest. Biketoberfest is a registered trademark of Daytona Beach and I must remove the word fest from all of my text and graphics.
To be continued ….

Ride Weather

I developed Ride Weather because I have seen the need to know about the weather before you take off on a long ride or head out for a motorcycle event. The motto of the site is “know before you go” and it includes 3 and 7 day weather forecasts, tropical updates and a forum for motorcycle ride and weather discussion.

Remove the word “fest” from Biketober site

Posted in Biketoberfest, Daytona Beach, Editorial, Florida, Hotels, Internet, Motorcycle Event Accommodations, Motorcycle Events, Motorcycles, Opinion, Ormond Beach, Rants and Raves, Travel on March 26th, 2006

Back some time ago, I received a certified letter from the Daytona Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau ( DBACVB ) advising me to remove the “fest” from my Biketober site. The letter stated that the word Biketoberfest® is a registered trademark owned by the DBACVB. This letter was different of previous correspondence coming from the non-profit organization in that it did not give a reason why. Previous communication with
the DBACVB stated my site did not promote Daytona Beach as they wanted. The email went on to state ” we primarily promote the Daytona Beach area to families and corporate markets.” Oh really! Recently the cover page of one of the domains that is approved and associated with the DBACVB looked like this:

CEO Eyecandy?

Bike Week

Posted in About Me, Bike Week, Biker Sites, Biketoberfest, Daytona Beach, Florida, Links, Motorcycle Event Accommodations, Motorcycle Events, Motorcycle Pictures, Motorcycles, Ormond Beach, Sites I have created on March 22nd, 2006

Bike Week Daytona was one of the first motorcycle event pages I created. You can read the story about how all my biker sites started at MNO Photo Bike Week is a 10 day event that is held in Daytona Beach, Florida every year and attracts one of the largest amount of bikers and motorcycle enthusiast. Over the past few years the event has spread out and headed north upwards to the Ormond Beach area.

That is not to say that visitors do not still end up on Main Street in Daytona Beach and the Daytona Beach Hotels still get booked solid every year for the motorcycle event. But the activities have spread out and there are an ever growing number of popular bike week destinations being added to the list of places to go and stay.
