Bike Week Begins

Posted in Bike Week, Daytona Beach, Florida, Hotels, Local, Motorcycle Event Accommodations, Motorcycle Events, Motorcycle Pictures, Motorcycles, News, Ormond Beach, Photography, Rides, Travel, Volusia County on March 2nd, 2007

You can see by the recent Bike Week webcam shot that Main Street is starting to see some life.

bike week daytona webcam shot

I made a post the other day on how to watch bike week from the Wise Guys Watering Hole web cams and I just captured this shot from their bike week webcam looking down on Main Street Daytona Beach. The weather is looking better, but the winds are still high.

Look for us! We always take pictures on the road, Cindi will have camera ready as we head up to the Cabbage Patch Bar to set up the tent.

Naked Cowboy

Look for this sign that the Naked Cowboy is holding and your picture may appear on www.daytonamotorcyclerally.com or our 2007.bike-weekdaytona.com web site. Don’t forget that we shoot on the Daytona Loop as well. If you are interested in getting any private work done while you are in town for bike week, give me a call on my cell 321-961-8936 and we will try to work you in.

Bike Week Hotels are still available and with no minimum stay. Click here to check out popular bike week destinations.

This will be my last post for a couple of days until I return home to do updates. I’m out of here, see you on the road. Ride safe and enjoy!

Watch Bike Week in Daytona Beach by web cam

Posted in Bike Week, Cool Sites, Daytona Beach, Entertainment, Florida, Internet, Links, Motorcycle Events, Motorcycles, Travel, Volusia County on February 28th, 2007

If you want to see what is going on downtown Daytona Beach during bike week, you can watch it live!

Wiseguys Watering Hole live Daytona Beach Webcam

Wise Guys Watering Hole has had one of the best web cams to catch the Main Street action for years. 3 of the cams are pointed to see what is going on inside the bar, but the top floor cam catches a birds eye view of main street Daytona Beach.

If you are not going to Daytona for bike week, you can check in on what is going on 27/7. You can also wave to your friends at home from these cams and get them to take a screen capture for you like the one above. These web cams are a great way to check the weather and crowd conditions as well.

Check them out, I think you will find them useful and fun.

I love the sound of motorcycles in the morning!

Posted in Bike Week, Biketoberfest, Camping, Daytona Beach, Editorial, Entertainment, Florida, Local, Motorcycle Event Accommodations, Motorcycle Events, Motorcycles, News, Volusia County on February 26th, 2007

motorcycle camping

I love to camp, but nothing beats camping in a tent during bike week and other motorcycle events. Waking up to the sound of a motorcycle starting up, then another and on to almost a continuous roar of engines gets me revved up for the days work.

Cabbage Patch Bar for camping

We camp and base our bike week operations out of the Cabbage Patch Bar. Camping is very reasonable,  $10.00 a head, per night for tent camping only. This works out well because Cindi and I do a lot of the photo work for the bar web site. Here you can party and walk home!

Meet your friends at the cabbage patch bar for bike week

Bike Week Camping is a lifestyle where you can make new friends and see old friends from the years past. The camp ground gets packed pretty fast, but there is a lot of room in the wooded area across from the bar.

Motorcycle parking for coleslaw wrestling

Wednesday by 10:00 am this is what the place looks like! Motorcycle parking overflow is pushed into the camping area for the world famous cabbage patch coleslaw wrestling. Make note: The women’s coleslaw wrestling is now held on 2 days at the cabbage patch bar. You can now catch all the action on the first Wednesday and second Saturday of Bike Week at the Cabbage Patch Bar, Samsula, Florida.

New Book Describes a Woman’s Solo Journey Around the USA on Cranky Russian Motorcycle

Posted in Biker Sites, Cool Sites, Global, Media, Motorcycles, News, Press Release, Rides, Travel on February 9th, 2007

SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 9 /PRNewswire/ — Breakdowns in small towns all around America is the theme of a new book titled AMERICAN BORDERS by Carla King, which describes her solo journey around the United States on a Russian Ural sidecar motorcycle.

A motorcycle journey to explore the borders between the United States, Canada, and Mexico quickly becomes a comedy of mechanical, social, and natural disasters. King’s four-month, ten-thousand-mile solo test ride of the newly imported Russian Ural sidecar motorcycle is punctuated by cracked welds and electrical gremlins, evil tow truck drivers, roadside romances, tornadoes and hurricanes.

Woven into the narrative are the intensely personal reflections of a woman traveling alone, the Zen of motorcycle maintenance, and keen observations of America’s diverse landscapes and population. From B.C. to the Blue Ridge, Boquillas to Beverly Hills, American Borders is a unique and intimate exploration of the United States and its neighbors.

“A great read!” says Lonely Planet founder Maureen Wheeler. “Carla takes every breakdown, every weird encounter in her stride with a sense of humor, an eye for the ridiculous, and incredible stoicism. All this, and sex and relationships, too!

“Heartwarming and revealing, readers get to know and love Carla, and get to know themselves a little more in the process,” says Genevieve Schmitt, founder of WomenRidersNow.com. “She’s a true hero, smiling every mile of the way and finding humor in the worst of circumstances.”

First blog post of 2007

Posted in Announcements, Bike Week, Bikefest, Biketoberfest, Daytona Beach, Deland, Edgewater, Editorial, Florida, Local, Motorcycle Event Accommodations, Motorcycle Events, Motorcycles, Ormond Beach, State, Travel, Volusia County on January 1st, 2007

Welcome to the year 2007 and my first blog post for the year. I figured instead of doing a looking back at the year 2006 (that is over), better to look ahead at the new year 2007.

The first part of the new year is going to bring a lot of travel time for me with the first being a small road trip down to Ft. Lauderdale (about 170 miles) for the grand opening of Orange County Choppers of south Florida on January 6th.

Then on January 11th we are to be back up in the State of Virginia for Cindi’s probate litigation suit. We are hoping that this trip will not be wasted as was the first trip. Well, the trip was wonderful actually, it was a waste in the legal department.

Of course I am already excited and ready for Bike Week 2007 that will be in the first part of March. Daytona Bike Week is going to be from March 2 – 11 this year. It may sound like a long time away, but planning for bike week now is important. I need to begin putting together a bike week schedule and we will soon be announcing what day we will be on the Daytona Loop for our 3 hour photo shoot. We set a few hours aside during bike week 2006 and we took almost 200 pictures for the Daytona Motorcycle Rally Loop Album. This year we will be shooting with two cameras and will even do better coverage of riders on the Volusia County Loop.

Happy New Year Everyone! Here is looking ahead to a great year of rides and motorcycle events. Keep it safe.

Mike

Deland looking to attract more bike week visitors

Posted in Announcements, Bike Week, Bikefest, Daytona Beach, Deland, Editorial, Florida, Hotels, Local, Motorcycle Event Accommodations, Motorcycle Events, News, Orlando, Ormond Beach, State, Upcoming events, Volusia County on December 18th, 2006

The City of Deland, Florida is actively beginning to promote their city in a running for bikers visiting Florida during bike week. Deland Bike Rally is scheduled for the 3rd of March 2007, the second day of bike week in Daytona Beach.

While Daytona Beach has said it wants to downscale the city’s events, nearby cities and Harley dealers are reaching for the biker traffic. Orlando Harley has started holding a bike fest to the west of Daytona and Bruce Rossmeyer has opened a Harley Davidson megaplex north of Daytona in Ormond Beach.  Deland is located between Orlando and Daytona Beach with easy access to Destination Daytona in Ormond.

The Deland Bike Rally plans a bike show, live bands, vendors and demonstrations. If you are planing on visiting for bike week or any other Florida motorcycle event, be sure to plan ahead on hotel accommodations. To save money and reserve your bike week hotel, visit my Bike Week Travel here. If you don’t like to make your hotel reservations online, got you covered! Call toll free 1-800-780-5733 coupon 133863 someone will be there to help you 24/7.

Best place for steak during bike week and biketoberfest

Posted in Bike Week, Bikefest, Biketoberfest, Daytona Beach, Dinning, Edgewater, Entertainment, Florida, Food, Likes, Motorcycle Events, Motorcycles, Opinion, Ormond Beach, Travel, Volusia County on December 12th, 2006

Rich's place Edgewater, Florida

During bike week or biketoberfest and when you are in the Edgewater, Florida area if you love a good steak visit Rich’s Place. Just south of Daytona Beach about a mile down Highway 1 from the noname saloon on the west side of the road. The atmosphere is laid back in a 50′s style with rock-n-roll and Elvis memorabilia all over.

Best Steak for bike week and biketober

I can’t think of any other steak place that I have eaten at where the steak has been cooked to perfection every time. Rich’s Place steak hits the spot! The burgers are fantastic too. Be sure to visit Rich’s next time you make the trip to Volusia County for any of the Florida motorcycle events. You won’t leave hungry and you won’t be disappointed.
