I love the sound of motorcycles in the morning!

motorcycle camping

I love to camp, but nothing beats camping in a tent during bike week and other motorcycle events. Waking up to the sound of a motorcycle starting up, then another and on to almost a continuous roar of engines gets me revved up for the days work.

Cabbage Patch Bar for camping

We camp and base our bike week operations out of the Cabbage Patch Bar. Camping is very reasonable,  $10.00 a head, per night for tent camping only. This works out well because Cindi and I do a lot of the photo work for the bar web site. Here you can party and walk home!

Meet your friends at the cabbage patch bar for bike week

Bike Week Camping is a lifestyle where you can make new friends and see old friends from the years past. The camp ground gets packed pretty fast, but there is a lot of room in the wooded area across from the bar.

Motorcycle parking for coleslaw wrestling

Wednesday by 10:00 am this is what the place looks like! Motorcycle parking overflow is pushed into the camping area for the world famous cabbage patch coleslaw wrestling. Make note: The women’s coleslaw wrestling is now held on 2 days at the cabbage patch bar. You can now catch all the action on the first Wednesday and second Saturday of Bike Week at the Cabbage Patch Bar, Samsula, Florida.

Riding the Volusia County Loop during Bike Week

Posted in Bike Week, Biketoberfest, Daytona Beach, Editorial, Florida, Local, Motorcycle Events, Motorcycle Pictures, Motorcycles, News, Ormond Beach, Photography, Rides, Volusia County on February 26th, 2007

Photographing motorcycles riding the loop at the curve

If you plan on visiting Florida for Bike Week 2007, be sure to work a ride on the Volusia County Loop into your plans. We will be on the loop photographing riders and their motorcycles on the first Saturday, March 3 between the hours of 1 till 3 pm.

Bikers wave to us as we shoot pictures on the Daytona loop during bike week

We have been taking pictures on the Daytona Loop during Bike Week and Biketoberfest for the past 3 years and enjoy the work and friends we make. You can see our past loop photo galleries by clicking here to visit our Bike Week site.

Volusia County Loop in Ormond Beach, Florida

The Loop is a great motorcycle ride that is enjoyed by the thousands of visitors to the Daytona, Ormond and Flagler Beach area each year during the two big motorcycle events Bike Week and Biketoberfest. The road is two lane paved that has stretches of straight roadway covered with scenic tree canopies provided by some of Florida’s oldest oaks.

The daytona loop s curve

As you ride in deeper into the 23 mile trail known as the “loop” you will encounter some sharp turns and  S curves along the low lying wetlands heavily decorated with natural Florida Palm Trees. The ride stretches out from outer Daytona and into Ormond and Flagler Beach.

The wetlands of the volusia county loop

There are not many places available to stop along the route, so you will want to ride slow to enjoy the view. The few places that allow for bikers to pull over and rest will not be seen until you are right on them, so you will need to keep an eye out for them.

It can also be very hard for us to find a good spot to take pictures along the loop scenic ride, but we have a few places that we can be found working. One of my favorite places is at what I call the lake curve. The picture above and at the post opening were both taken there. This spot gives me a great camera vantage and angle where I can lay near the road and catch motorcycles as they pass on the curve.

Look for me and my wife as you ride and your picture may be posted in this year’s loop ride photo gallery. Pictures are available for purchase and are shot at a high resolution so that they are suitable for enlarging and framing. See you at Bike Week!

First blog post of 2007

Posted in Announcements, Bike Week, Bikefest, Biketoberfest, Daytona Beach, Deland, Edgewater, Editorial, Florida, Local, Motorcycle Event Accommodations, Motorcycle Events, Motorcycles, Ormond Beach, State, Travel, Volusia County on January 1st, 2007

Welcome to the year 2007 and my first blog post for the year. I figured instead of doing a looking back at the year 2006 (that is over), better to look ahead at the new year 2007.

The first part of the new year is going to bring a lot of travel time for me with the first being a small road trip down to Ft. Lauderdale (about 170 miles) for the grand opening of Orange County Choppers of south Florida on January 6th.

Then on January 11th we are to be back up in the State of Virginia for Cindi’s probate litigation suit. We are hoping that this trip will not be wasted as was the first trip. Well, the trip was wonderful actually, it was a waste in the legal department.

Of course I am already excited and ready for Bike Week 2007 that will be in the first part of March. Daytona Bike Week is going to be from March 2 – 11 this year. It may sound like a long time away, but planning for bike week now is important. I need to begin putting together a bike week schedule and we will soon be announcing what day we will be on the Daytona Loop for our 3 hour photo shoot. We set a few hours aside during bike week 2006 and we took almost 200 pictures for the Daytona Motorcycle Rally Loop Album. This year we will be shooting with two cameras and will even do better coverage of riders on the Volusia County Loop.

Happy New Year Everyone! Here is looking ahead to a great year of rides and motorcycle events. Keep it safe.

Mike

Deland looking to attract more bike week visitors

Posted in Announcements, Bike Week, Bikefest, Daytona Beach, Deland, Editorial, Florida, Hotels, Local, Motorcycle Event Accommodations, Motorcycle Events, News, Orlando, Ormond Beach, State, Upcoming events, Volusia County on December 18th, 2006

The City of Deland, Florida is actively beginning to promote their city in a running for bikers visiting Florida during bike week. Deland Bike Rally is scheduled for the 3rd of March 2007, the second day of bike week in Daytona Beach.

While Daytona Beach has said it wants to downscale the city’s events, nearby cities and Harley dealers are reaching for the biker traffic. Orlando Harley has started holding a bike fest to the west of Daytona and Bruce Rossmeyer has opened a Harley Davidson megaplex north of Daytona in Ormond Beach.  Deland is located between Orlando and Daytona Beach with easy access to Destination Daytona in Ormond.

The Deland Bike Rally plans a bike show, live bands, vendors and demonstrations. If you are planing on visiting for bike week or any other Florida motorcycle event, be sure to plan ahead on hotel accommodations. Daytona Beach had a busy week in the news

Posted in Bike Week, Daytona Beach, Editorial, Florida, Journalism, Law, Local, News, Opinion, Politics on December 17th, 2006

(Daytona Beach, Florida) 12/17/2006 Weekend Roundup

The recent death of Yvonne Scarlett-Golden, the Mayor of Daytona Beach forced a rather rapid decision on the city commission. Who would be appointed to fill the rest of the term? The decision took longer than expected and was postponed from being decided on last Monday to a new date set for Thursday.

While some spoke of certain Mayor hopefuls to fill the term, others did not want any of the prospective candidates to have an upper hand by serving the short period. I cringed at the mention of certain parties that were on the list, but rejoiced when I heard the idea was rejected. By Tuesday, popular opinion had Daytona Beach businessman Glenn Ritchey as the projected appointee and by the end of Thursday’s City meeting, he was in.

Glenn Ritchey had announced that he had no intentions of running for Mayor, but would consider taking the appointment for the remainder of the term after Mayor Golden’s death. Ritchey being appointed does not sever ties between the ISC (International Speedway Corporation) and City Hall in Daytona Beach. Read more at The Real Daytona.

In other news, Elizabeth Book, has won yet another battle in court for baring her breast in public. You will remember that Book was first arrested back in 2004 during Bike Week for baring her breast on the main street bridge in Daytona Beach. She later escaped arrest by protesting behind a curtain on the bed of a truck, but then exposed her breast again in front of the Peabody Auditorium. She was arrested for this time for disorderly conduct, which she was acquitted for on Thursday.

However, it looks as though a city deputy attorney, Mary Hartman, refuses to let the issue go and has already started a petition to bring the case back to local court for reconsideration of appeal. It seems there are better things that could be done with the tax dollar income for Daytona Beach.

Willie G. Davidson to keynote annual motorcycle hall of fame museum breakfast at daytona bike week

Posted in Announcements, Bike Week, Daytona Beach, Florida, Local, Motorcycle Events, Motorcycles, News, Press Release, Volusia County on December 14th, 2006

PICKERINGTON, OHIO – Harley-Davidson styling guru and Motorcycle Hall of Fame member William G. Davidson, better known to millions of enthusiasts as Willie G., will share his vision of Harley-Davidson’s iconic design heritage at the 19th Annual Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum Fundraising Breakfast. The event takes place Friday, March 9, 2007 from 8am to 11am in Daytona Beach, FL. Each year, funds raised at the Breakfast play an important role in supporting the non-profit Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum’s mission of education and preservation, including world-class exhibits and America’s only Hall of Fame dedicated to motorcycling.

Inducted into the Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 1999, Davidson is synonymous with having ushered in The Motor Company’s most successful era. He joined Harley-Davidson’s design department in 1963 after a stint at Ford Motor Company and quickly scored a major success with the design and debut of the Harley-Davidson FX Super Glide. A response to the rising popularity of choppers, cruisers, and customs, the original FX laid the groundwork for some of Harley-Davidson’s best-selling machines.

Today, Davidson is the Senior Vice President and Chief Styling Officer for Harley-Davidson, and he continues to guide the company’s team of innovative designers. In addition to fueling Harley-Davidson’s distinctive style for over four decades, Davidson was one of 13 employees to buy the company back from AMF and guide it to financial health during the 1980s. A passionate rider, Davidson continues to be an immensely popular participant in motorcycle rallies and events around the country. He is one of the most widely recognized and admired enthusiasts in the world. For a complete Willie G. biography please visit the Motorcycle Hall of Fame section of www.motorcyclemuseum.org.

To join Willie G. and friends at the Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum’s Breakfast, immediate reservations are recommended. The event will take place at the Hilton Daytona Beach Oceanfront Resort in Daytona Beach, Florida. Doors will open at 8am on March 9. Davidson will host an autograph session following the conclusion of the Breakfast. Admission is $30 prior to January 31, 2007 and $35 thereafter. Additionally, Associate Sponsorships are available for $50 and $100. All proceeds benefit the Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum. Rich's place Edgewater, Florida

During bike week or biketoberfest and when you are in the Edgewater, Florida area if you love a good steak visit Rich’s Place. Just south of Daytona Beach about a mile down Highway 1 from the noname saloon on the west side of the road. The atmosphere is laid back in a 50′s style with rock-n-roll and Elvis memorabilia all over.

Best Steak for bike week and biketober

I can’t think of any other steak place that I have eaten at where the steak has been cooked to perfection every time. Rich’s Place steak hits the spot! The burgers are fantastic too. Be sure to visit Rich’s next time you make the trip to Volusia County for any of the Florida motorcycle events. You won’t leave hungry and you won’t be disappointed.
