LegalForce Answers announces a lawyer day of service to help answer consumer legal questions for free

PALO ALTO, Calif., Jan. 19, 2009 — LegalForce , the largest community of American lawyers on the Internet, announces a day of service for lawyers across the United States to answer legal questions of Americans for free to commemorate the historic inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama. LegalForce includes a free legal questions-and-answers forum that provides personalized answers to consumers’ specific legal questions. “LegalForce Answers” is the largest legal Q&A website where users can find and vote on the best attorneys in their cities and states – through their LegalForce best lawyer profiles – and the quality of their answer through votes from the community of LegalForce users.
In addition, “LegalForce Answers” lets consumers answer questions so that they can share their own experiences with others who are struggling with similar legal issues.

“We’re pleased to be able to answer questions of any type on a pro-bono volunteer basis today, and help those individuals who cannot afford a lawyer through LegalForce,” comments Jason Smith, a public interest lawyer in New York. Through LegalForce, individuals from all walks of life can their questions answered by registered American lawyers working on a pro-bono basis.

The launch of “LegalForce Answers” creates an online community focused exclusively on legal issues where consumers can ask specific, highly detailed questions – even anonymously to protect their privacy – or search a database of questions asked by others on a broad range of legal issues. Users can also be automatically notified when questions or answers are posted on specific topics of interest to them, or when a specific lawyer posts a new answer to any question. Answers can come from both lawyers and non-lawyers.

“LegalForce Answers” is also the only legal Q&A forum that recognizes those lawyers who volunteer their time during this historic time provide helpful answers as judged by the community of LegalForce users. Lawyers can achieve different “levels” based on the quantity and quality of their answers, and that level is displayed together next to each answer they provide, as well as in their LegalForce Profile.

In addition to being able to vote on the quality of an answer and view other people’s votes, consumers can assess the background of every lawyer who provides an answer by reviewing their LegalForce Rating and LegalForce Profile, which includes a lawyer’s professional experience, industry recognition, and client endorsements. To make that easy for the consumer, a link to the lawyer’s LegalForce Profile is displayed beside every answer.

CHARLOTTE, N.C., March 26 /PRNewswire/ — Riders, start your engines! NASCAR driver and Charity Ride founder Kyle Petty will lead a field of more than 250 riders as they wind their way from the Midwest to the Deep South in an effort to raise awareness of and funds for Victory Junction Gang Camp and other children’s charities.

Riders will depart from Traverse City, Mich., on July 13, making overnight stops in Elkhart Lake, Wis.; Lombard, Ill.; Lexington, Ky.; White Sulfur Springs, W.Va.; Charlotte, N.C.; and Peachtree City, Ga., before reaching Savannah, Ga., their final destination, on July 19.

Since the Charity Ride’s inception in 1995, 5,700 participants have logged more than 7.2 million cumulative motorcycle miles and donated more than $10.5 million to Victory Junction Gang Camp and other charities that support chronically ill children. Petty and his wife, Pattie, founded the Victory Junction Gang Camp in Randleman, N.C., in 2004. The camp operates solely on the donations of corporations, organizations and individuals. The Pettys recently announced the opening of a second Victory Junction Gang Camp in Wyandotte County, Kan.

“Pattie and I are constantly amazed and inspired by the dedication of our riders, sponsors and fans,” said Petty. “These companies and individuals are truly committed to bettering the lives of deserving children and their families. We’re looking forward to another great event — and more incredible results!”

Chick-fil-A President and Chief Operating Officer Dan Cathy will join Petty on the Charity Ride. This year marks Chick-fil-A’s fifth year as the event’s title sponsor, and the company has extended its sponsorship agreement through 2009.

“We at Chick-fil-A are grateful for the opportunity to once again be the title sponsor of the Kyle Petty Charity Ride,” Cathy said. “Chick-fil-A is proud to be associated with such a worthy cause and is eagerly anticipating another exciting Ride.”

Riders will make a pit stop at Victory Junction Gang Camp in Randleman on July 17 during a camp session designed for children with physical disabilities. As a result of the 2007 Charity Ride’s efforts, 80 children will attend this five-day session free of charge.
Fans and spectators along the Charity Ride route can support Victory Junction Gang Camp through the Charity Ride’s “Small Change. Big Impact.” program. In 2007, donations from the “Small Change. Big Impact.” program alone totaled more than $64,000.
Additional sponsors of the 2008 Chick-fil-A Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America include Coca-Cola, Pilot Travel Centers LLC, Wells Fargo, Manheim, Racing Electronics, Dodge Motorsports, Wincraft Racing and FLUIDYNE Racing Products.

LoJack Reveals 2007 Top Recoveries of Stolen Motorcycles

Posted in Internet, Law, Media, Motorcycle News, Motorcycles, National, News, Press Release on January 30th, 2008

Organized Crime Rings Continue to Fuel Theft; Trend of Selling Stolen Parts Online Persists

WESTWOOD, Mass., Jan. 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — LoJack Corporation (NASDAQ:LOJN) today unveiled its annual wrap-up of the year’s top recoveries for 2007 involving the LoJack For Motorcycles recovery system. These stories underscore that organized crime rings continue to fuel the growing problem of motorcycle theft. The most recent figures from the National Insurance Crime Bureau indicate that motorcycle theft has jumped a full 137 percent since the year 2000. The recovery stories of 2007 also revealed that today’s thieves continue to leverage newer mediums — such as the Internet — to sell stolen parts and make a profit from this lucrative crime.

“Once again, this year’s best recovery stories highlight that sophisticated crime rings are often behind motorcycle theft and that owners need to do everything possible to protect their bikes,” said Ronald V. Waters, LoJack’s President and COO. “Today’s owners need to be vigilant not only about where they park their motorcycles and how they protect them, but also from what sources they are buying parts and accessories, as evidenced by the growing number of thieves who are selling stolen parts online. We’re proud that the LoJack System has been so instrumental this year in helping police bust chop shops and theft rings across the country and apprehend the criminals behind this crime.”

Below are LoJack’s top motorcycle recoveries for 2007:
– “Biggest Single Chop Shop Recovery” – One LoJack-equipped Suzuki GSX-
R600 led Orlando, FL area police and auto theft investigators to
discover a chop shop with 11 other non-LoJack equipped motorcycles, 8
motorcycle frames, multiple motorcycle parts and tools, with a total
value of $200,000.

– “Fastest Motorcycle Recovery” – In this recovery, a Yamaha YZF750 was
stolen from a locked garage in a gated community outside Denver, CO.
Fortunately, the owners also equipped the bike with LoJack and area
police were able to find the bike only SIX minutes after system
activation.

– “Best Bust Reflecting the Trend of Selling Stolen Parts Online” – In
this recovery, a LoJack-equipped Suzuki GSX600 led Chicago area police
to a chop shop with not only multiple stolen motorcycles and engines,
but also hundreds of stolen motorcycle parts – all readied to be sold
online. Officers discovered that the thieves had more than 200
transactions of selling stolen parts online in the previous six months.

– “Best Recovery From a Bike Rally” – In this recovery, the owner of a
Suzuki GSXR1000 had his bike stolen from a rally in North Myrtle Beach,
SC. Fortunately, he equipped the bike with LoJack and area police not
only recovered his bike within mere hours of system activation, but
also found multiple other stolen motorcycles.

– “Best Recovery Showcasing Strength of RF Technology” – A stolen LoJack-
equipped Yamaha motorcycle led police in Fort Worth, TX to the bike’s
location in a metal building. Thanks to LoJack’s Radio Frequency
technology — which operates even if the stolen asset is in a steel
container, under dense foliage or in a concrete building — the bike
was recovered in only 12 minutes after system activation. This
recovery also uncovered a chop shop with other stolen bikes.

New Harley-Davidson Softail Cross Bones Makes Dark Debut

Posted in Global, Media, Motorcycle News, Motorcycles, News, Press Release on January 21st, 2008

Authentic Custom Bobber Fuses Stunning Style and Distinctive Design

MILWAUKEE, Jan. 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — The new Harley-Davidson FLSTSB Softail Cross Bones cuts the aggressive profile of an authentic custom bobber, but with some dark twists that deliver a wickedly fun and emotional riding experience.

The new Softail model was announced today at the Harley-Davidson Winter Dealer Meeting in San Antonio. With the retro look of a Springer front end and other post-war era bobber styling cues like a sprung solo seat, half-round rider footboards, Gloss Black round air cleaner cover and chopped front fender, the Softail Cross Bones rides with a Black and Polished Twin Cam 96B powertrain, 6-speed Cruise Drive transmission and truly unique Softail suspension.

“Only Harley-Davidson could do this bike,” said Bill Davidson, Harley-Davidson Vice President, Core Customer Marketing. “It’s a motorcycle inspired as much by our early Knuckles and Pans, as by our desire to deliver innovative technology and content to make the ride today as magical and transforming as only a Harley-Davidson can. Cross Bones is a bike that makes me want to strap a blanket across the handle bar, hit the campgrounds on my next road trip and get totally in touch with what’s right about this land.”

As the latest of several Harley-Davidson Dark Customs, Cross Bones melds stripped and chopped custom creativity with rough and raw finishes. Soul mates of the Cross Bones include the Nightster, Night Train, Night Rod Special and Street Bob. Check out more on Dark Custom motorcycles at http://www.harley-davidson.com/darkcustom.

As each Harley-Davidson Softail motorcycle declares its styling independence with exclusive components and inspired craftsmanship, the Cross Bones is a bold addition to an already free-spirited family. Many features of the Cross Bones and other Softails are reminiscent of restless riders of the past, whose defiant attitude resonates with those who march to their own beat in any generation.

The Softail name originates from its rear suspension design, with a swingarm section that honors the lines of a vintage rigid frame, while delivering a smooth, comfortable ride. Hidden horizontal coil-over rear shock absorbers are strategically mounted out-of-sight below the powertrain. The counter-balanced Twin Cam 96B powertrain is rigid-mounted in the Softail frame to give the rider a core connection to the motorcycle. Harley-Davidson Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI) is standard on all Softail models, as is the 6-speed Cruise Drive transmission with its accommodating clutch lever effort.

The Softail Cross Bones takes on the road with a rebellious expression accentuated by a Gloss Black painted Springer front end with chrome springs, black bucket headlamp and black mini ape-hanger style handlebar. While the chopped front fender exposes more of the front wheel, a Bobtail fender does the same for the wide 200 mm rear tire. Tires with matching treads ride on Steel Laced wheels with Gloss Black painted rims.

The sprung solo seat, gloss black round air cleaner cover and old-style half-round rider footboards form a nostalgic focal point of the Cross Bones, recalling images of a classic era on this contemporary motorcycle. With two coiled springs underneath, the adjustable two-position Cross Bones seat rides in modern comfort at a height of 26.6 inches. A distinctive Softail horseshoe-shaped oil tank with the time-honored Harley-Davidson patent badge is located below the seat.

An authentically designed five-gallon fuel tank sports a gloss black “cat-eye” styled console with accessible ignition switch and a new speedometer face. A hand-laced leather tank panel on the console compliments the sprung solo seat. A straight shot exhaust system with chrome slash-cut mufflers provides optimum performance and stands out in contrast to the Cross Bones’ many darker components.

The FLSTSB Cross Bones is available in premium custom graphics with wicked striping and paint featuring new Dark Blue Pearl, Dark Blue Denim, as well as Vivid Black, Black Denim, Olive Pearl and Pewter Denim.

FLSTSB Cross Bones features:

  •  Rigid-mount, 1584 cc Twin Cam 96B balanced engine
  •  6-speed Cruise Drive transmission
  • Black powder-coated engine with polished rocker box covers and pushrods and untreated fins
  • Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI)
  • Gloss Black painted Springer front end with chrome springs
  • Gloss Black mini ape-hanger handlebar
  • Straight shot exhaust with chrome slash-cut mufflers
  • Adjustable sprung solo seat with leather lacing
  • 26.6-inch seat height
  • Chopped front fender with striping
  • Bobtail rear fender with striping
  • Gloss Black cat-eye tank console with new speedometer face
  • Gloss Black round air cleaner cover, oil tank and rear fender supports
  • Distinctive five-gallon fuel tank with hand-laced leather tank panel and striping
  • 200 mm rear tire
  • Laced Steel front and rear wheels with Gloss Black painted rims
  • Half-round old-school foot boards
  • Horseshoe oil tank with Harley-Davidson patent badge

Motorcycle Cancer Seat Patent Granted

Posted in Global, Health, Media, Motorcycle News, Motorcycles, News, Press Release on January 8th, 2008

MISSISSAUGA, Ontario, Jan. 8 /PRNewswire/ — The United Kingdom has granted a patent to Canadian inventor Randall Dale Chipkar for his innovative ‘electromagnetic shielding motorcycle seat’. The invention is designed to shield motorcycle electromagnetic field radiation from penetrating the rider’s vital organs.

“I am grateful to the U.K. for sharing my vision and I appreciate their recognition of this serious health concern for motorcyclists. This is a major step in my quest to protect riders worldwide,” Chipkar says.

“Various types of extremely low frequency (ELF) electromagnetic field (EMF) radiations have been linked to health disorders including cancer. Many motorcycles generate excessive ELF EMF radiation up through the seat penetrating directly into the rider’s groin and torso. The prostate is of major concern as it is one of the closest delicate glands invaded by the radiation. The colon and neighboring organs are also at risk,” adds Chipkar.

ELF EMF radiation at close exposure is unnatural and over time could have devastating biological consequences. Major organizations now agree that ELF EMF magnetic fields are a possible carcinogen. People should not have to gamble with their health because they love riding motorcycles. Consumer safety is priority.

“ELF EMF magnetic fields penetrate through steel and even lead. Only highly processed material can dramatically shield us from these cancer controversial forces. With patent protection, we can now aggressively market this innovative shielding seat to provide riders with peace of mind,” Chipkar says.

Chipkar adds, “I am now open to licensing or even selling some of my worldwide patents as long as I am assured the seats can reach consumers immediately. Hopefully, this new seat will revolutionize the motorcycle industry to keep riders safer.”

“Let’s put ‘true freedom’ back into riding motorcycles!” Chipkar concludes.

Chipkar can be reached through his website at http://www.motorcyclecancer.com/ where his new book, Motorcycle Cancer?, is also available along with further information.

Posted in Celebrity, Entertainment, Global, Media, Motorcycle Events, Motorcycle News, Motorcycles, News, Press Release on January 2nd, 2008

DETROIT, Jan. 2 /PRNewswire/ — “Mr. Hot Wheels” and “Mr. Monster Garage” will infuse a hefty dose of fun into the AutoWeek Design Forum, 8 a.m. – 9 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008, in the Riverview Ballroom of Cobo Conference/Exhibition Center in Detroit, Mich. “Designed for Fun” is the theme of the 15th annual event.

Larry Wood, veteran miniature car designer and leader of Mattel Inc.’s Toy Car Division and Jesse James, television celebrity and owner of West Coast Choppers, are among the leading automotive and consumer designers who will share their insights throughout the daylong event.

Wood has been designing Hot Wheels for nearly all of the collectibles’ 40 years of production. Following a brief stint with Ford Motor Company designing real cars, Wood joined the toymaker in 1969 as a one-man operation. Today, Wood is among more than 30 Hot Wheels designers who have collectively developed as many as 100 unique cars in one year. Mattel produces five million Hot Wheels each week.

Hot Wheels celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2008 with a special series of 1:64-scale model cars designed by six automotive industry manufacturers, including Dodge, Chevrolet, Ford, Honda, Lotus and Mitsubishi (as reported in the Dec. 24, 2007 issue of AutoWeek). Accompanied by Hot Wheel’s own vehicle, the collection is set to hit stores in the spring.

James catapulted to national fame through the Discovery Channel’s “Monster Garage” as the leader of televised teams of experts who built “monster machines.” The hour-long program showcased the groups’ adventures in transforming stock vehicles into other types of vehicles or machinery. Some of the more memorable projects included transformation of the Chrysler PT Cruiser into a wood chipper, a Lincoln Continental into an open road racer and a Ford Model A into a rat rod, just to name a few.

As owner of West Coast Choppers, a Long Beach, California, custom motorcycle fabrication shop he founded in 1992, James developed a following with the special-order motorcycles – ranging in price from $60,000 to $150,000 – he painstakingly tailors for each buyer.

New approach for attacking lupus identified

Posted in Global, Healing, Health, Lupus, Medical Research, News, Press Release on December 17th, 2007

NEW YORK CITY, Dec. 16, 2007– Investigators at Hospital for Special Surgery
have identified two new targets for drugs aimed at controlling lupus. If
companies are able to develop drugs that hone in on these targets, patients may
be able to control their disease with few side effects.

“The study identifies very good therapeutic targets, and what needs to be
done is identify better candidate drugs,” said Lionel Ivashkiv, M.D., director
of Basic Research at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. He led the
study, which was published online in Nature Immunology on December 16 and will
appear in print in February.

Because abnormally high levels of interferon-alpha can lead to lupus,
researchers have developed drugs that block interferon. These drugs, however,
have immunosuppressive side effects that can leave patients vulnerable to
various illnesses and infections, some of which can be deadly. Currently, these
drugs are being tested in clinical trials. If researchers are able to develop
drugs for the newly identified drug targets, patients may be able to avoid these
immunosuppressive effects.

Interferons have two major functions. First, they protect against viruses and
second, they regulate immune responses, strengthening immune responses and
playing a role in autoimmunity. Different proteins, called STATs, mediate the
two functions of IFN. STAT1 mediates the autoimmune and inflammatory functions,
and STAT2 mediates the virus protection function. “What we were interested in
understanding is how you can regulate the balance between activating the
inflammatory effects and the antiviral effects,” Dr. Ivashkiv said. “We thought
if we could control the functions of the interferons, that would lead to new
therapeutic approaches where you could block specifically some of their
functions, but not others.”

The investigators discovered that calcium specifically increases activation
of STAT1 by interferons, and thus turned their attention to calcium. The
researchers tested whether two kinase enzymes in the calcium-signaling pathway,
CAMK and Pyk2, could be manipulated to control STAT1. In studies involving mice,
the investigators showed that blocking these calcium-signaling pathways with a
drug called KN-93 regulated the amount of STAT1, but not STAT2 activation.

“What we found was that these kinases that are regulated by calcium actually
regulate the strength of activation of STAT1 by the interferons, but they do not
regulate the strength of activation of STAT2,” said Dr. Ivashkiv. “The idea was
if you block these signaling pathways, would you block the STAT1 part, which
controls the inflammatory/deleterious effects and preserve the antiviral part.
We tested that in an animal model of lupus and we were able to show, in vivo,
that you can suppress STAT1 activation by inhibiting the calcium-dependent
kinases.”

The researchers say that their work has identified a new therapeutic approach
for attacking lupus. “What the companies are trying to develop are, basically,
antibodies against the interferons. The concern there is that if you block the
interferon completely, patients may become very immunosuppressed and unable to
handle viral infections,” Dr. Ivashkiv said. “Our idea is that if you block
these calcium pathways, you could block the deleterious effects of the
interferon, but maintain the antiviral effects.”

Lupus is an autoimmune disease that can affect various parts of the body,
including the skin, joints, heart, lungs, blood, kidneys and brain.
Inflammation, considered the primary feature of lupus, is characterized by pain,
heat, redness, swelling and loss of function. In most people, the disease
affects only a few organs and symptoms are mild, but in others, the disease can
cause serious and even life-threatening problems. According to the Lupus
Foundation of America, an estimated 16,000 Americans develop lupus each
year.

Bid on Bono’s bike at the nec bike show

Bid on Bono’s bike at the nec bike show, and save lives in africa with riders for health

The award winning UK charity, Riders for Health is offering people the chance to own a motorcycle owned by the U2 lead singer and activist, Bono, in an auction to support their lifesaving work in Africa. This once in a lifetime opportunity is set to take place at the International Motorcycle and Scooter Show at the Birmingham NEC which runs from 23rd November – 2nd December.

The red Ducati 916 has a truly star-studded history having belonged to the late INXS front-man Michael Hutchence, and then Bono. The bike has also been owned by U2 member Adam Clayton.

Now this motorcycle will be saving the lives of children in Africa by supporting Riders for Health.

Bono, a leading campaigner for Africa since the 1980s, donated the motorcycle to Riders for Health to raise money to help health workers in Africa reach rural villages with essential healthcare. He signed the tank of the bike with a touching personal message in memory of his late friend, Michael Hutchence, putting ‘For Michael, Bono’.

This is a unique chance to own a motorcycle that has belonged to three of the biggest names in rock music.

For more information on how to bid for this amazing lot people should visit the Riders for Health website at www.riders.org. Those eager fans wishing to attend the auction on 2nd December at the NEC Bike Show can book their tickets for the Show at http://www.motorcycleshow.co.uk/

The auction will take place on the Black Horse Stage in the Arai Entertainment Zone at 12 noon.

Riders’ CEO, Andrea Coleman, said:

‘Bono’s commitment to Africa and his support for those living in poverty and ill-health is wellknown. And for us at Riders for Health, reaching those people in rural Africa is our focus and is a major challenge. Riders for Health knows that you can’t save a child unless you can reach her. Bono’s support for our work is valued highly and we thank him.’

All the proceeds from the sale of this amazing lot will go to help support the work of the award winning UK based charity, Riders for Health. Riders trains African health workers in motorcycle riding and maintenance, enabling them to reach remote villages with the kind of regular, reliable healthcare we take for granted.

_ One public health worker in Africa is often responsible for up to 20,000 people over an area of up to 300km, so mobility is vital.

_ Three million people die every year in developing countries because of lack of access to treatment.

_ Four million African children each year die before their fifth birthday.

Riders provides health workers with properly managed vehicles that never break down so they can deliver healthcare day in, day out. The charity has programmes in Zimbabwe, The Gambia, Nigeria, Kenya and Tanzania.

Riders for Health currently reaches almost 11 million people in Africa. The money raised in the auction will help to support Riders’ goal of reaching an extra 10 million people by the end of 2008.

For more information on how to bid for this unique lot, please mail Jennie Goodman at Riders for Health: jgoodman@riders.org.
