Tattoo artist and friend, Tony Plante killed in motorcycle accident

It is always sad to see some of the tragic articles that come across the news wire. But it really gets to me to see a person I knew leave us. I just read the news about tattoo artist Tony Plante on Karen’s Tattoos Blog, but reading the actual news story that was published in The Salem News, it looks like the accident happened last week. Tony evidently lost control of his motorcycle and died due to injuries from the accident.
I met Tony during Biketoberfest back in 2003 at the Cabbage Patch bar where he would usually have his tattoo studio set up. He was a real friendly person and we always said hello and talked for a while during each event every year. Tony told me that he had a house here in Florida, but still operated his tattoo studios up in Massachusetts. According to the news stories, he had recently got engaged to his girlfriend of six years. Tony was only 49 and had lost his leg to a motorcycle accident, but he loved to ride.
Rest In Peace My Friend

I never knew Tony. Never met him or saw him.
I met his Mom. I e-mailed her, then called her.
I bought one of Tony’s bikes.
Carol was wary of me, at first of course.
But Carol is a swell person. I can imagine if Tony was a little
bit like her, he was a hell of a person.
Thank you Carol for our brief meeting…..and our short chat.
(P.S. the bike is wonderful)

I miss Tony very much, I remeber when I was 7 years old going in the shop and asking him if i can get a tattoo yet, he was like yeah, then he chased me out the shop with the tattoo gun….But still every day i came back because i loved being there. eventually when it was 2 weeks before my 18th birthday i came in and asked him for one now.. he said yes and i got one on my leg. it was the most beautiful piece of art ive seen in my life and i will forever treasure it and remeber the special time with tony. I am so sorry to hear about Tony. I have not seen him in 35 years or so but I have said his name a million times when talking about the tatoo I got from him when I was 18 and we were in his mother’s basement. I discribe my tattoo as a feather with a flowe and the star is tony Plante mark. Is this right? did he alway’s put this star on his tattoo’s or did my mind make it up? Well again I am so sorry for the world’s loss, he was a good man back then and from what I have read a good man till the end. RIP.

I met Tony back in 1999 he gave me my first tattoo and i was so pleased of how talented he was that shortly after that he began steadily tattooing me every month. Now i have a full sleeve done by tony and he became one of my GOOD friends. I later moved to Florida and bumped into tony at the airport and he told me that he had a tattoo shop in New Symrna, so I visited his new shop with lots of framed pictures of my sleeves. If someone has any of those pictures I would love a copy. Tony was a great person and a wonderful artist. R.I.P tony

I live a couple blocks away from the shining star which was his shop
I got my lip rings done there when I was 16. I always used to see him around the shop. He was a cool guy, and very popular.
Such a tragedy
He’ll be missed
RIP Tony

I first met Tony when my brother took me to the Log Cabin in Salem to meet him and get my first tattoo. This was back in 1988 and I got bit hard by the tattoo bug! I only had work done by one other person since then and nobody compares to Tony’s style and talent, especially the fine line detailing in his work. I attended his services with my brother and my niece and it was so terribly sad, though I do take small comfort in the fact that he died doing what he loved! Tony had a good send off though. More “party supplies” went with him than anybody I have ever seen. I put in a miniature bike and my brother put in one too, along with some other non mentionables!! I miss him terribly. He wasn’t just my tattoo artist, he was my dear dear friend. R.I.P. TP
