I read about H - D employees taking pay cuts, it's happening everywhere with other job's & still even leaving the States going to where ever. I'm almost 63 & I'm on my 9th Harley & I've had 6 Jap bikes also, sure had prob's with both kinds, the H - D's are easier to work on. I've had an 93 evo that I bought from an bond-slave minister & had it about 2 yr's., it was a waste of my $10,000.00. The ole knuckle, pan, iron & shovel heads have The True Authentic H - D Sound, the evo's have an hallow imitation sound. Only 3 things I do like about the evo's, the 5 & 6 speed tranny, rubber mounted motor,
& the way that the header pipes fits into the cyl - heads. It's still good to get out & ride.

Frank,
I ride a Harley. So does my wife. I am a Viet Nam vet. I have several nice
Gibson guitars, a Jeep, a Corvette and many other toys that are proof that
I have busted my ass to own them. I don't have a fat ass. My wife doesn't
have one either. Neither of us have GI problems. We are probably the only
husband and wife who own Harleys without having a single tattoo. Well, I
could go on but I'll offer some wisdom and close. I wear jeans, a polo shirt and a baseball cap when I ride. So does my wife. When we pass other riders, we wave. They are usually dressed like us. They wave back. When we pass most 'old school' bikers, they seldom wave back. The fact is... you
wrote a mean spirited piece. The only thing I got from it... Fuck you!

Thanks for visiting and commenting Frank. Odd thing, I just happened to check my Askimet (which I hardly ever do) and found your comment in there. Glad I did!

Hey Mike, thanks for the hat tip! That post truly has become a beast of its own. I'm not a Harley rider, but that post actually came out of my experience working in bars where I came to know some old school Harley riders -- they were the ones who schooled me on RUBs, and how the modern Harley phenomenon had taken some of the mystique away from them.

These were the guys who explained to me how in the old days, road trips meant having either a chase vehicle with parts and/or a mechanic riding with you, or, in most cases, every guy knowing how to take his bike apart out of necessity. They are also the guys who told me that guys who trailer their bikes to show-off events kind of don't get it.

So basically I transferred what I learned from a bunch of guys I respected and just wrote what I had heard them saying over the years.

The post was really kind of a joke, the only regret I have is that at the time I wasn't aware that Rolling Thunder was started as a way to honor the POW/MIA movement. A couple people have written me to take me to task on that, and rightfully so.

Ride safe.
