Weekend catch-up
I had a very busy weekend and was away, so here is a quick happening catch-up on what is going on.
With all the hype on this Daytona Beach event in recent media coverage, we would be led to believe that it was going to be spectacular.
2006 Biketoberfest turnout was light
My observations, however, say the numbers for this year’s event were down. I had read that a record number of 100,000 visitors were expected to turnout for the annual Florida weekend motorcycle event. Today is the final day of Biketoberfest and it may be too early to take count, but my estimation is the numbers dropped.
The way the city of Daytona Beach runs this type of event needs to be overhauled. The Daytona Beach Chamber registered the trademark to the word that was created by a biker giving him very little or no credit at all. It’s time for them to give the event back to the people. The way the event is publicized to include their “ride quietly” campaign, it’s no wonder that bikers are finding other places to visit.
* Billy Lane
Many had questioned and wondered if Billy Lane would be present at the Choppers Inc. booth at Destination Daytona during Biketoberfest.

He was on hand 3 times a day to sign autographs for the public. However, the really big announcement on Lane is that 2 of his pending criminal charges were dropped. You can read more on this at Bikers Voice.

One would think that somebody who did what Billy Lane did would be advised by his attorney to lay low. Billy has showed absolutely no remorse. Were the people from out of state who paid for his autograph??? As I have said his case has not been on the news or in the news of other states. Some people know nothing about it at all.
Daytona is not fun to go to anymore. Too many cops and too many people with temporary tags on their bikes which leads one to think they are rookie bikers. Mike, I am anxiously awaiting to see what you can find out about two of the charges being dropped. I for one, know for a fact that North Carolina still has his Florida drivers license in their possession. He had no license. That would be the easiest thing to prove.
Billy just got off the DUI in North Carolina. They had no proof except for the trooper who pulled him over. Billy refused the sobriety tests. That revoked his license.

I wonder if Billy Lane did any burnouts at Destination Daytona?? If so was someone pouring Jack Daniels down his throat?? Wonder if he has a designated driver?????

Associated Press on October 20th spoke to Brevard County Assistant State’s Attorney Wayne Holmes after Billy Lane was charged only on the DUI Manslaughter. Mr. Holmes stated that there was a possibility of other charges, but it does not change Billy Lane’s exposure. DUI Manslaughter is a serious charge according to Mr. Holmes.
HELLO???? Somebody was killed because they were on the road when Mr. Lane was in a urgent hurry to get to his home. Billy had no drivers license. I hope that people are writing letters and calling the State’s Attorney’s office. They should be prosecuting all three charges and and the charges not made…hense, speeding, crossing a double yellow line and no seat belts. I am so disappointed.
This is an election year and we as citizens need to elect people who look out for the people. I am under the impression that Mr. Funk is trying to do some kind of a plea bargain. The victims family does have a say in this matter. I think Mr. Lane needs to go to jail and not pass go. This case is starting to STINK and is very offensive. If anything it should be prosecuted like any other DUI Manslaughter. I am especially aggravated charges are being dismisssed. Billy did not use his own cash to bond out of jail. He used a bondsman. Yet, Billy has the cash to pay his panel of 4 attorneys and many experts to dispute the state’s evidence. It is a difficult thing to swallow.

I just checked and the Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles site information has been updated showing Billy Lane’s driver license has been revoked.
